ketchup stain

Ketchup: Great on fries, rough on carpets! Don’t stress if you got a bit of the red stuff on your carpet during the cook out, ketchup is pretty straight forward to remove. It’s important to act fast if you want an easy clean up and a happy ending.

First you should use paper towels or clean cloth towels to blot up as much of the ketchup as possible; don’t rub! The you are ready to take on the rest of the stain.

Two things to try:

  1. Dish soap. Mix a couple of drops of mild dish detergent into some warm water and apply that to the spot. Give it a couple minutes to work then use towels to soak up the soap and water. Next you’ll want to rinse with regular plain water. Last you should dry the area with more fresh towels. If you still see red then try…
  2. White vinegar. Mix two spoonfuls of vinegar with some more warm water and then wait for up to ten minutes. Soak it up, rinse with new water and dry the carpet very well.
